Work in progress: starting to crochet trim for a new hip scarf. The coins are from an old scarf and the plastic jewels used to be part of a chandelier. Transforming SCRAP materials and thrift store chic into a shiny new belly dance costume!

From my other Tumblr blog: scrapfinds:

Janome Alphabet Stitch foot for your sewing machine - complete set!  I brought this home with me from SCRAP, but I haven’t gotten it to work yet because there is not enough clearance between the needle screw and the foot. Looking for another screw - I will update this post if I can make this work!

I’ve been needing a new set of oven mitts for a while, and I wanted a set that would go with the Dia de los Muertos theme in our kitchen. Hooray for Alexander Henry fabric!

Discovered Insul-Bright lining, which is a batting containing a “metallized film”. The mitts make a crinkle sound when I put them on.

I put these ahead of all the other projects on my list because they only took an evening to complete, and with all the baking I have been doing lately they will really come in handy! Cutting out four of each material or lining took longer than the sewing did. I added a layer of cotton batting below the shiny lining for comfort. Very pleased with the results.

Perusing my vintage cookbook collection to plan meals for the week. Perhaps a savory molded gelatin salad?

Must. Try. This.
mildlyinterestingadventures:

DIY Chevron Rug | High Heeled Foot In The Door
I don’t know about the rest of the world, but one thing you can always count on in Australia is that there will always be rug sales, and the adverts will be loud and annoying! I watch these adds and think - ‘They’re still to expensive, no matter how loud you yell!’. So I was very inspired by this DIY, it only cost $55 to make and you can make it with any fabric you like!

All the small panel blocks for the quilt are complete! The next session will be stitching these together and adding the border panels. L & I have come up with a good balance of labor for this projects.  She sews while I cut and iron.
